CoverSutra

Those of you looking for an alternative to OnDeck during its ongoing development hiatus (or rather, near-death experience), check out CoverSutra, a lovely little utility with integrated Apple Remote and keyboard shortcut controls, that shows promise with Last.fm/AudioScrobbler support in the next release. It may lack some of OnDeck's more advanced features, and isn't free ($10), but it is nicely executed and for you basic needs provides everything neatly in one application.

If OnDeck is still chugging away for you, but you want keyboard control, I use SizzlingKeys.

OnDeck will be resurrected in the immediate future.

Christmas Spirit

Christmas is nearly upon us, but as I'm out here in Bangalore rather than my native Blighty, and think Christmas cards are rather wasteful (let alone sending them half way around the world), uVerse is participating in the GIFTER.ORG ‘Million Dollar Blog Post’ project and making some small charity donations in sponsorship of them instead—why not participate yourself, and post your wishes to their site!

But that's not all, we're also participating in the MacSanta promotion—check out all the excellent shareware applications that are being offered in the lead up to Christmas at 20% discount. You can purchase PictureSync for $12 in lieu of the regular price of $15 using the coupon code MACSANTA.

And don't forget—you get two licences when you purchase PictureSync (some of you long-time users have three!), so why not send your other one to a friend as a gift? To purchase, or create a licence as a gift for someone, simply launch PictureSync, choose 'Licence' from the PictureSync menu, and click the 'Licence Details' button, then follow the instructions. (If you're creating a licence for someone else, remember to tell them their details yourself as we don't currently send an email to them.)

The charity donations I've made are:

$50 Electronic Frontier Foundation. “From the Internet to the iPod, technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights.”

$50 Association for India's Development. “A 15-year old voluntary, non-profit organization which facilitates sustainable, equitable and just development in India, by working with grassroots organisations and social change movements. AID supports and initiates projects in various spheres including education, health, empowerment and rural technology.”

£30 ($57) Trees For Life. “Trees for Life began in 1981 as a local solution to the global problem of deforestation. It forms part of the Findhorn Bay Community, an intentional community comprising various organisations and many individuals drawn together by a common vision of creating a positive future for humanity and the planet. The main focus of our work is the major project to assist the natural regeneration of the Caledonian Forest which once covered a large area of the Highlands of Scotland as extensive stands of majestic Scots pines, interspersed with birch, rowan, juniper and aspen trees.”

Credit to Tara of Citizen Agency for her blog post bringing GIFTER.ORG to my attention.

Sejourn

My apologies to anyone who's sent in support requests that I haven't addressed yet. I am aware of them!

After wintering in France, I'm currently spending a short while in London arranging my affairs in preparation for moving to India next week. Once I'm on top of things there I'll get back to the next update to PictureSync for Mac, whilst PictureSync for Windows gets underway. Then hopefully OnDeck. Until then please bear with me and expect slow responses on any issues that might require code changes. Thanks.

OnDeck Uploads

OnDeck v2.0 <strike>is now being worked on for release in a week or two</strike>. It will incorporate completely reworked upload functionality—with support for recent tracks! I'm keen to hear thoughts on what it should support in the way of template (HTML, JavaScript…) and formatting (variables) functionality, and how you'd use them and integrate it with your site, so please send feedback or leave a comment here!

[Update] Sorry, this has been indefinately delayed. I do realise that AudioScrobbler support is broken. The new version isn;t very far along, but I might release an interim fix soon. There is scroll-wheel volume adjustment to look forward to…
