Importing

Simply select some pictures and launch PictureSync (it will import your selection automatically), or if PictureSync is already running click the Open button (or choose Open from the File menu). PictureSync will read the pictures and associated annotations. Because PictureSync does not have its own 'Library' it is opening these files from iPhoto rather than importing them.

To select pictures:

  1. For groups of pictures, click the first picture, then holding down the shift key click and select the last picture—all the pictures between will be selected. (continious selection)
  2. For individual pictures hold down the Apple key and click each picture in order. (discontinious selection)
  3. For all pictures in an album, select the album, then either choose 'Select All' from the Edit menu, or use the 'Import From…' dialog in PictureSync.

Notes:

Sorting and Import Order

The top/first item in iPhoto will be the top item in PictureSync and also the top/most recent item when uploaded (see FAQ). PictureSync preserves the order of the view in iPhoto if you do Edit>Select All in iPhoto (or select an album and use Import From… in PictureSync). Otherwise PictureSync preserves the order of your selection in iPhoto if you Apple or Shift-click pictures, this means the first picture you click will be the first imported and the first shown online, giving you manual control over the import order without rearranging in iPhoto.

To rearrange pictures in iPhoto you can drag each picture to a new position (View>Sort Photos>Manually), or choose View>Sort Photos>by Date to sort them automatically. You can also sort pictures in PictureSync before uploading, choose Sort from the Edit menu (this setting is remembered between launches).

Export Annotations

You can use PictureSync to save annotations from iPhoto as IPTC/XMP fields in your original (JPEG/TIFF) files (in your iPhoto Library folder). There are two ways of doing this:

  1. Enable the 'Save imported annotations' preferences (they'll be saved automatically upon import, useful for frequent processing).
  2. Choose 'Save Annotations' from the file menu after opening some pictures.
