These instruction apply to PictureSync 1.8r15+. You can import images from Aperture (v1.5.4+) for uploading to web services with PictureSync in several ways.
The order you select items (shift-click for continuous selection, command-click for discontinuous) is the order that they will be opened in PictureSync, thus to preserve your album order choose Edit>Select All, or click the first item, then shift-click the last item.
-
Selecting
- Simply select some images, then launch PictureSync (or click the open button if already running).
- Select your images in Aperture and ensure your images have up-to-date previews. If you've made image adjustments they are probably current, however if you've made annotation changes they may not be and you will need to force regeneration (hold down the Alt/Option key and choose Images>Generate Previews).
- Drag and drop your selected images to PictureSync (it's icon, the file list or the open button).
- Export your images to a folder using a desired preset.
- Open them in PictureSync as with any other files (e.g. via drag and drop).
Requires a Pro licence to remove shareware reminder.
The upload state is not recorded with the original file. Turn off 'Automatically open selection' in PictureSync's preferences.
This method does not preserve all the original EXIF data (it does preserve some), the upload state is not recorded for the original file, and image order is not preserved.
Notes:
- When uploading your selected images PictureSync will export a composited JPEG using the JPEG - Original Size image export preset, or if you have enabled resizing, the image export preset that you select in each account's settings (Windows>Accounts).
- Uploads are recorded per master, therefore if you upload one version, and then another from the same master, it will be recognised as the first. You must choose 'Forget Uploads' in PictureSync in order to upload a different version, the last uploaded version will be the one recorded.
- If you default language is not English you must be sure to enabling resizing and selecting a suitable preset for each, or ensure you have a preset name JPEG - Original Size.
- If images do not show up in PictureSync with a thumbnail, select the corresponding image(s) in Aperture, hold down the Alt/Option key and choose Images>Generate Previews. Previews are not required for uploading unless with drag and drop.
- Aperture may be slow exporting images as all changes are composited and then applied to the image at the time of export. This is more noticeable on slower machines.
- PictureSync sets the Title to the IPTC Headline. The Version Name field becomes the file name, and thus subsequently the title on some services (e.g. Flickr) if the Title is missing. You may use a rule to copy the File Name (or any other PictureSync supported field) to the Title thus setting the title to the Version Name.
