Recommended Applications
PictureSync (free for editing), Holocore's own photo-sharing utility features an integrated IPTC/XMP annotation editor with sidecar support, an attributes inspector with all available image and file metadata, advanced batch processing rules, and can import from iPhoto, iView MediaPro and Aperture.

iView MediaPro ($150), a fully-featured image management application, with extensive IPTC/XMP support ideal for cataloging large image collections.

The following applications include support for viewing and editing IPTC annotations (metadata fields) in image files (JPEG and TIFF). If you know of other applications that should be included here, do send feedback.

Under OS X 10.4 you can search for IPTC annotations on all your images using Spotlight. For details of mappings and naming of fields see the PictureSync metadata page.

Use the File Browser (File>Browse) and expand the IPTC section in the Metadata tab. Alternately with an open image and use the File Info dialog [File>File Info…].
